Having worked non stop over the last few weeks on completing my research module and preparing for my final presentation detailing my ‘ideas, concepts and research’ to date for the practical study, I am finally ready, and raring to go, for Wednesday’s presentation session.
As a way to culminate a ‘true experience’ of my study, its intentions, research and concepts to date for my audience, I decided upon using video as the primary medium for my presentation. This medium has allowed me to showcase the specific fields of image, word and sound as separate entities yet also illustrate their relationship together. Video and film art are techniques that I have rarely explored in any great detail, my design preference and skill set usually centered around design for print based, illustrative purposes. This challenge enabled me to confront tools that were new to me, placing a degree of control outside of my comfortable abilities, something that helped to fuel my determination and confidence as I was able to realise that I could achieve the aesthetics I so desired.
To accompany this film, I have also produced a series of paper based booklets. These booklets should be considered as an aid to the video, a secondary outlet created to summarise in a straight forward manner the information evoked from the video presentation. These booklets are intended to be given out at the end of the video footage, a way for my audience to contemplate and reflect from the information communicated, time to gather their own thoughts and interpretations in preparation for further questioning if necessary. With print based media being a key component and discipline of Graphic Design that I hope to continue working within in the future, this process helped to further expand upon my current abilities and refine layout techniques overall. I will hopefully be able to continue to progress with this exploration throughout the rest of my study.
The three primary artists mentioned within my presentation are Valerian Marguery, Jane Harris and Tom Phillips.

Thank you to Scott for lending me his 450D for picture taking 🙂
